Interlibrary Loan Requests

Our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) office extends library service beyond local boundaries by borrowing materials from other libraries for our cardholders. This is a special service which requires its own rules and procedures.

  • Resident (Marion County) cardholders and Non-resident (paid) cardholders who live in a non-taxing library district are able to place interlibrary loan requests through IndyPL. PLAC cardholders must use their home library to place interlibrary loan requests.
  • The borrower's account must be free of charges and delinquencies.
  • The borrower's address and phone number listed in their account must be current.
  • Each borrower may have only three (3) active interlibrary loans at one time, including unfilled loan requests and items currently checked out.

We are unable to order some types of materials for interlibrary loans. Examples include: AV materials (audiotapes, compact discs, DVDs, videotapes, etc.); books classified as reference use only; issues of magazines or newspapers; rare or valuable books; and most genealogy sources. In addition, we do not request from other libraries books which we own or have on order.

Further information on interlibrary loan borrower policies is available on the Interlibrary Loan Help page.
